Through many years of outfitting experiences and realizing the
biological clock has not halted its direction at all, my desire
to remain involved depends entirely on physical ability, healthy
attitude and convincing friends that pastures are all still
green. Although gracefully maturing “to some degree”
and looking at parents and children with perhaps wiser, gentler
and ‘yes’ focused eyes, I remain committed to the
very ideals that make me tick. The very thought of not trekking
to my favorite haunt every spring in Algonquin Park for ice-out
trout fishing, ritualistic solitude and laugh with pal’s
has not become part of my vocabulary yet, however uttered under
ones breath a time or two, “I’m packing lighter
next year”. The idea of turning a buddy into a personal
pack mule has long since gone, as well as the slight in response
of the mere suggestion. A new methodology was required and the
questions abundant.
Various canoe trips to Restoule / Wolseley Bay area and Anstruthers
Loop have put me in mind of old, heavy wrought iron carts with
large spoked wheels on flat bar tires still functional, however,
left behind at waters edge to perpetuate someone else’s
travels. One last glance as I push from shore. Blink. The snapshot
is engraved in my head and that framework eventually re-invents
itself on the workbench back home.
Materials of late such as Poly-plastics, Royalex and Kevlar
have changed the way we look at canoes, kayaks and boats in
general. They’re lighter, easier to repair while assuring
durability and longevity. Qualities I adhere to and have long
since embraced. “Build it or Buy it Once”. Consumers
are discerning, well informed and the voice from which many
things evolve. What more could one ask for when questions and
statements are heard?
I have pondered this thought for some time now. Far too many
boats, canoes, kayaks, and even sailboats are sitting idle to
weathered elements. Our trails and lakes are becoming increasingly
accessible, wider, varied and for what purpose? Seniors, if
I may say, are the voice en masse and our children are a vision
for the future of this great land. I choose to be the awareness
and get you “Hot On The Trail”. This product is
a tool to keep you getting there.
Indulge,
Protect and Enjoy.
